Dear Readers,
Nowadays, the words 'climate change'
are on everyones' tongues. In the truest sense of the word, with its new 'Superwurst', Ökoland has launched the world's first
'climate-neutral' sausage. Whether climate neutrality is realistic for
sausages or aircraft journeys remains to be seen. It's for sure that the
trend to ever greater sustainability represents a serious challenge for
companies. According to a recent survey, 44% of consumers favour brands
that have introduced measures to reduce their emissions of carbon
dioxide. Read the column written by Thomas Perry, managing director of
the respected Sinus Sociovision research institute, and one will gain an
insight into how consumers view the subject of sustainability.
Working together with the DGMF (German Management Research Association),
J&M Management Consulting is currently surveying consumer goods
manufacturers about economic and environmental sustainability. The
research will provide conclusions at the end of the year about corporate
strategies and the degree of practical implementation. Read on in this
issue to find out more about Green Supply Chain Management (Green SCM).
Sustainability also has an economic component. Given the uncertain
economic circumstances, efficiency is gaining importance once again. Read
more about how Heidelberger Druck, T-Systems and Sulzer Metco have
optimised their order management/financial accounting.
I hope you enjoy reading the latest publication.

Adaptive accounting at T-Systems
T-Systems is one of the first major German IT companies introducing the
new SAP general ledger, enabling it to achieve an increase in
flexibility and efficiency in its financial accounting. In future,
financial and profit centre accounting will be working with the same
dataset, ensuring consistency throughout each month. Accounting and
controlling reconciliation requirements will be reduced and the
balancing process accelerated. For the first time, T-Systems will also
be in a position to establish balances at segment level which will make
the calculation of KPIs on a profit centre basis possible.

COLUMN: Lohas – who they are and where
they live
|
|

|
For over two years now, 'Lohas' ('Lifestyle of Health and
Sustainability') have been livening up the marketing and environmental
scene as a new kind of consumer. They provide the material for many
debates in marketing and politics. There are good reasons for that,
given that they seem to be the constructive response to the dilemmas of
a world in search of new orientation between climate change, the cult
of the body and the consumer society.

As an industry, logistics is not immune to climate change. Consumers,
environmental authorities and trading partners are increasingly looking

production and distribution of a product. Increasingly, too, they are
demanding measures that protect the climate. Companies wanting to make
a strategic response to this requirement can now take advantage of
J&M's Green SCM Scan.

Only one out of
20 European automobile companies are truly LEAN
The LEAN Enterprise Study 2008, carried out by J&M Management
Consulting, revealed that only about five percent of all the companies
in the automotive industry operate ideal business processes from the
perspective of LEAN manufacturing. Although on paper, the sector
deploys carefully conceived and detailed processes - incorporating TS16949
and other ISO certifications - very few companies actually apply these
standards to their own organisation.
